My research in the media
My three minute thesis presentation was aired on ABC Radio National’s The Science Show presented by Robyn Williams. You can here it here:
It is also available to view on youtube!
A publication from my research was featured in an article in Plantae, Plant Science Research Weekly, Jan 2021, the authors made a great graphical abstract about the paper:
My research was featured by two fantastic scientists and communicators (@PurpleNeety and @plyon_act) who came along to a poster I gave at the Ecological Society of Australia’s conference. They wrote an amazing song about it and performed it in the science meets art symposium at the conference!
My scientific journey to my first postdoc in Switzerland and the research I undertook in Switzerland as part of the BugNet project was covered by the University of Bern and Oeschger Centre for Climate Change Research Newsrooms in English and German!
Our co-authored paper (Xirocostas, Everingham & Moles, 2020) which was a meta-analysis that showed that the sex with the reduced sex chromosome (e.g. the XY chromosome in humans) dies earlier across many organisms, was featured in a range of media articles including: ABC National Radio, Suddeutche Zeitung, The Sydney Morning Herald, The Guardian, IFLS Science, the UNSW Newsroom and Science Magazine.
I contributed some keys points and quotes to an article written by CUA Health Australia about the importance of growing plants in your home and garden.
I was featured in online article by the Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney, 16 August 2019, Botanic Scientists in Sydney battle climate change, https://www.rbgsyd.nsw.gov.au/Stories/2019/Botanic-scientists-in-Sydney-battle-climate-change
I was featured in media release, 8 April 2019, Native plants are taking back their homes, Ecological Society of Australia Media Releases, https://www.ecolsoc.org.au/news/2019/04/native-plants-are-taking-back-their-homes
I have been featured on UNSW Science’s instagram on multiple occasions, including on their instagram story, talking about my research and the plant ecology research facilities at UNSW:
